FAQs: Coda full-performance sedan
1. Where is the sedan at in the development process?
The first prototype was delivered to the U.S. in January of 2008. Since then, we have successfully completed full-frontal impact testing at 35 mph and 40 percent offset testing at 45 mph required for FMVSS self-certification. Early results of impact testing indicate that the highway speed will get an above average overall N-CAP safety rating. Safety and durability testing will continue throughout 2009.
2. What are the core features of the car?
The Coda sedan is an all electric, zero emissions, four-door sedan that seats 5 passengers. It will achieve 80 mph with an average range of 100 miles per charge and comes fully-equipped for comfort, convenience and safety. Factory-standard equipment includes a telematics package (for the first year), navigation with turn-by-turn directions, “green screen” that monitors driving efficiency, roadside assistance with an emergency button, Bluetooth system with an embedded microphone, AM/FM/XM radio with Sirius satellite capability, MP3/USB connectivity, security system, aluminum wheels, and power windows, doors and mirrors. Safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes with electronic stability control and advanced airbags with an occupant detection system. The vehicle is backed by a three-year/36,000 mile warranty, and the battery is guaranteed for eight-years/100,000 miles.
3. When will the sedan be available for purchase?
Pre-sales will begin via the company’s Web site (www.codaautomotive.com) in September of 2009. We anticipate the first models being delivered in the California market in the fall 2010.
4. How much will the sedan cost?
The fully-equipped sedan will be available to consumers for $45,000. With the passage of Federal legislation in the fall of 2008, customers will be eligible to receive a $7,500 tax credit for their purchase of this vehicle. There may also be state incentives that purchasers are eligible to receive.
5. Can I be put on a waiting list and are you taking deposits?
A priority waiting list will be available on the company’s Web site (www.codaautomotive.com) beginning in June 2009. A deposit program will be instituted later in the year. We will notify our mailing list about our online deposit program when it launches.
6. When and where can I test drive one?
The car will be available for test drives at events in select markets in the fourth quarter of 2009.
7. How safe is the car?
The sedan will fully conform to and exceed U.S. NHTSA standards; we are engineering with the expectation of a four or five star NCAP rating. We guarantee the car will be safe and are taking steps to prove the safety to buyers.
8. What type of batteries will it have, and are they warranted?
The sedan is powered by a 333V Lithium-Ion (Iron Phosphate) battery with 134hp. The batteries will be warranted for eight years/100,000 miles.
9. What is the range and how long does it take to recharge?
The average range of the car is 90-120 miles* on a single charge, sufficient to satisfy 94 percent of daily driving routines. The lithium iron phosphate battery system will take 6 hours for a complete charge. Charging for a 40-mile commute can take as little as 2 hours.
10. Where can you charge it and how much does it cost to charge?
The sedan can be recharged at any standard outlet. Based on the average night time cost of electricity in the U.S., the cost to fully charge the sedan at night is under $3.
11. Does it have a regenerative braking system?
The highway speed utilizes a regenerative braking system to recoup energy.
12. Who is Lishen and why did you choose them as a JV partner?
Lishen is China’s leading producer of rechargeable lithium-ion cells and currently supplies cells to Motorola, Samsung, Apple and many other electronics manufacturers. Working with Lishen as our JV partner will allow us to address the issue of long-term battery supply. The JV will also enable us to rapidly industrialize Coda’s power system for commercial volume production and to scale the business.
Ich wills noch nicht so recht glauben - aber die Zeiten sprechen dagegen, dass es sich um eine Ente handelt. Wenn das Teil kommt, ist unsere Weltwirtschaft über den Berg.
